The bathroom. It’s not the most glamorous space to organize (although we’ve seen our share of gorgeously-designed bathroom storage plans!). However, we’d argue it’s one of the most crucial spaces in your home for systems and organization. From your personal care products to backstock items, organizing your bathroom can make your daily routines way more enjoyable and efficient.
One thing we’ve noticed: bathrooms often feel short on storage. (Seriously, homebuilders, what’s with not putting drawers in bathrooms?!) We’ve encountered that challenge many times with our clients, so coming up with creative solutions to make a bathroom functional is a big part of our job.
Creative Solutions for Bathroom Storage
If your bathroom lacks storage, here’s what a professional organizer would do:
Create a Countertop System
Use the surface area you have and build upward! We love using clear acrylic storage products to customize countertop storage for daily use items. Stacking drawers are great for makeup or small hair accessories, or you can create a whole stacking system that fits your needs. Alternatively, a simple 2-tier turntable can store small bottles and jars while still looking pretty!
Use Available Wall or Door Space
Look at the available wall space in your bathroom and see if you can add storage there. Floating shelves are useful for keeping items visible, or you could install a small cabinet for closed storage. Another favorite solution? An Elfa over-the-door system!
Utilize Space Under the Sink
The area under the sink can offer some great storage opportunities with the right products. Use stackable drawers to maximize vertical space and divided bins to corral backstock items. Just be sure to take measurements and be mindful of working around any plumbing!
Bring in a 3-Tier Cart
We’re pretty sure a 3-tier cart is one of our favorite storage hacks – we use them everywhere! They can be low-profile and you can roll them wherever you need them. In a bathroom they’re great for storing your hair tools, daily products, or even extra hand towels.
Maximize Your Drawers
Whether you have just one drawer or many drawers, you can’t go wrong with drawer organizers. We recommend acrylic or plastic drawer organizers for bathrooms as they’re easy to clean and impervious to liquids. And, it’s best to buy different sizes individually so that you can truly customize drawers to your needs. Use drawer organizers to contain and categorize products in a “Daily Care” drawer, or to create the makeup drawer of your dreams!
